A new report shows 121 children died in Oklahoma as a result of accidents in 2008.
The Oklahoma Child Death Review Board released its 2008 statistics on Thursday that showed accidental deaths continue to be the leading cause of death among children.
Of the accidental deaths, 73 were the result of vehicular accidents. Another 19 were drowning deaths, and 10 were the result of poisoning or overdoses.
A total of 247 child deaths and 59 near death cases were reviewed by the board in 2008.
Among the board's recommendations are strengthening booster seat laws, prohibiting all-terrain vehicle drivers 12 years old and younger and mandatory sobriety testing for drivers in accidents that result in the death or serious injury of a child.
