A trial has begun in Wewoka for a Seminole man charged with first-degree murder in a 2011 homicide in the Seminole city limits.

Christian James Farris, 19, is standing trial in Seminole County District Court on charges involving the shooting death of Alvin Walker, 50. He’s also on trial for one count of escape from arrest or detention.

Court records show numerous witnesses have received subpoenas to testify in the trial this week.

The murder investigation began the night of Jan. 4, 2011, after a motorist discovered Walker’s body about 9 p.m. in the middle of the roadway in the 500 block of West College, which is about one block away from Seminole High School.

Seminole police requested assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation in probing the case.

After conducting interviews and collecting evidence throughout the night, agents and police officers arrested Farris and booked him into the Seminole City jail about 6:30 a.m. Jan. 5, 2011. Farris allegedly escaped two hours after being booked into jail, which prompted a manhunt in downtown Seminole that ended with Farris in custody about noon the same day.

According to obituary information, Walker was a 1977 Seminole High School graduate.
