A Seminole County jury has convicted a Seminole man on a first-degree murder charges and recommends he serve a life sentence.

The jury found Christian James Farris, 19, guilty in the shooting death of Alvin Walker, 50, and also found him guilty of escape from arrest or detention.

The jury recommended Farris received a life sentence for the murder and spend two years in prison for the escape count. A pre-sentence investigation has been ordered in the case and a follow-up hearing is scheduled in March.

The trial in this case started Monday at the courthouse in Wewoka and ended this week with the jury’s verdict.

The murder investigation for this case began the night of Jan. 4, 2011, after a motorist discovered Walker’s body about 9 p.m. in the middle of the roadway in the 500 block of West College, which is about one block away from Seminole High School.

Seminole police requested assistance from the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation in probing the case.

After conducting interviews and collecting evidence throughout the night, agents and police officers arrested Farris and booked him into the Seminole City jail about 6:30 a.m. Jan. 5, 2011.

Farris allegedly escaped two hours after being booked into jail, which prompted a manhunt in downtown Seminole that ended with Farris in custody about noon the same day.
