SHAWNEE, Okla. —

A pair of bond propositions for the Wanette School District did not secure the 60 percent majority vote needed to pass in Tuesday’s election.
Unofficial results from the Pottawatomie County Election Board showed that voters in the district voted 143 to 102 for the first proposition, which would have secured $235,000 for the district to be used for building improvements and maintenance.
These totals translated to 58.37 percent of voters in favor of the proposition and 41.63 percent of voters opposed to the proposition.
Results showed that a total of 127 votes (52.92 percent) were cast in favor of the second proposition, while 113 votes (47.08 percent) were cast against it. The second proposition would have secured an additional $265,000 for the district, which would have been used for the purchase of buses.
Superintendent Rick Riggs was unavailable for comment Tuesday night.
Among the projects considered under the potential $235,000 were:
• New roofs
• New heating and air conditioning units
• Cafeteria repairs
• Gymnasium floor repairs
• New playground equipment
• Commercial sized lawn mower for field maintenance
The district has been leasing buses, Riggs said, and the $265,000 from the second proposition would have been used to purchase buses.
