A Shawnee man charged with second-degree murder in the September stabbing death of his stepfather was scheduled for preliminary hearing Friday, but waived his right to that hearing. His case now advances to the felony docket for Feb. 29.
Nickey Don Sneed, 38, is charged in Pottawatomie County District Court. He is accused of stabbing Ronald Lee Scott, 58, in the face with a knife on Sept. 12. Scott died from his injuries days later on Sept. 17 at an Oklahoma City hospital.
The two were reportedly involved in an argument when the stabbing occurred. Charges allege Sneed was involved in conduct that created an immediate and extremely high degree of risk of death to another person, although it was done without any premeditated design to effect death.
Shawnee police began investigating this case when they were called to Scott’s home, 221 W. Midland, about 5:33 p.m. Sept. 12.
As paramedics assisted Scott, within minutes, police found Sneed about one block away, with reports showing he had blood on his head, forearm and hands.
He was booked into the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center, where he remains jailed.
If convicted of second-degree murder, Sneed could face 10 years to life in prison.
