Auditions for Shawnee Little Theatre’s December production of “Little Women” has been set for Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. and Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church parish hall, 501 N. Broadway. The tryouts are away from the SLT building so as not to interfere with rehearsals for SLT’s October production of “Annie”.
Directed by Rebecca Fry, “Little Women”, based on Louisa M. Alcott’s famous novel, is so well known and so well loved that it is hardly surprising that many attempts have been made to portray its characters upon the stage. The structure of the play faithfully covers that of the novel, interweaving the lives of the March girls, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, and Laurie, the boy next door, as they grow up happily together, yet the action is contained neatly. All the overtones of gaiety and the undertones of sadness are here, bringing the story completely to life in a way which is both accurate and dramatically satisfying.
There are roles for four men, ages 16 and up and seven women, ages 13 and up. Many are roles for older actors. Rehearsals are expected to begin in late October with performances Dec. 3-11. For further audition information contact Fry at (405) 275-7153 or request information on the SLT website www.shawneelittletheatre.com
Begun in the summer of 1967, Shawnee Little Theatre is a non-profit 501c3 organization staffed totally by volunteers. The new SLT season of plays begins Oct. 7 with the family musical comedy “Annie.” “Little Women” in December  will be followed in February, 2011 by the adult comedy “The Miss Firecracker Contest.” The season ends in April/May 2011 with the new adult musical “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.” As a season extra, SLT will conduct a Kid’s Theatre Camp in June 2011 culminating in a performance of “Willy Wonka Jr”.
Season ticket application forms are available online at www.shawneelittletheatre.com to print out and mail in. Season tickets will be on sale through the run of “Annie” in October.
