Bethel resident Kyle Lewis, 18, passed away Monday, July 26, 2010 in Stroud, Oklahoma.
He was born Aug. 7, 1991 in Shawnee to Marty and Kelly (Taylor) Lewis. Kyle lived in Tecumseh until he was five years old, then moved with his family to Ada, where he attended Latta schools through the 2nd grade. It was then that his family came to Bethel where he lived for the past ten years. He was a 2010 graduate of Bethel High School, where he was co-valedictorian of his graduating class, and was planning on attending the University of Oklahoma on a Golf and Academic Scholarship. In 2008 he was the Class 3A State Golf Champion, and was State Runner-Up in 2007, 2009, and 2010.  He was the recipient of the 2009 Wendy's High School Heisman Award for the State of Oklahoma, as well as the Hewlett Packard Scholastic All-American for Golf. He was also named the 2010 Jim Thorpe Golfer of the Year, and had aspirations of becoming a professional golfer. He was 1 of only 27 athletes in the state of Oklahoma from all 484 public schools to be chosen as a 2009-2010 Oklahoma Basketball Coaches Association Academic All-Stater.
Kyle was a devout Christian young man who was baptized into Christ when he was 13. He was a member of the Lakeview Church of Christ and active in the youth group.  He was also very active in school activities including FCA and Student Council. He loved golf, basketball, and listening to music. He was a lifelong OU Fan and was a South End Zone Football Season Ticket holder. He enjoyed working with youngsters and helped last summer with the First Tee in Kansas City (teaching kids the game of golf). Kyle was an incredible young man who touched countless lives in the 18 short years he was with us. He loved life, he loved to laugh and smile, and he dearly loved his family and friends. He was a true blessing to all who knew him and was OUR GIFT FROM GOD.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Sam E. Taylor; grandmother, Dolly D. Lewis and an Uncle, Paul David Lewis.
