Tulsa resident Melba Elaine Harris, 93, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, in Tulsa.
She was born March 13, 1916, to Hazel (Williams) and Curney Patton in Dale. She graduate from Dale High School in 1933 and played on the 1931 State Championship Girls Basketball team. She attended the Shawnee Business College in 1935 and graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1941.
Melba married Staff Sergeant James Daniel Harris on Feb. 23, 1944 at Will Rogers Field in Oklahoma City.
She taught at Dale High School, Roosevelt Junior High School in Oklahoma, Southeast High School in Wichita, Kan., and retired in 1977 from Will Rogers High School in Tulsa.
Melba is preceded in death by her husband Jim “JD” Harris and brothers, Curtis and Joe Patton.
She is survived by her daughters, Jill Medina, husband Joe, and Sidney Daniels, husband, Howard (deceased); five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at Will Rogers United Methodist Church in Tulsa with 3 p.m. graveside services following at Dale Cemetery in Dale, Okla.
