Shawnee resident Russell Leon Williamson died Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at the age of 80.
Russ was born to the late Ralph and Vearl Williamson in 1929 in Ripley, Okla. Russ graduated from Ripley High School in 1947 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. In 1954 he married Audrey Joan Rickstrew also of Ripley.
Retiring after a 20 year career in the U.S. Air Force, Russ earned a BA from Delaware State College. He and Joan both taught at Lake Forest High School in Felton, Del. After retiring from teaching, Russ and Joan relocated to Hilton Head Island, S.C., for several years and recently returned to Oklahoma.
Russ is survived by his wife, two children and one grandchild. He is also survived by his sister, Rose Hull of Macomb.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
A private memorial will be held in Shawnee.
