Clifford R. Griggs, resident of McPherson, Kan. for the past two years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at the age of 92. 
Born June 12, 1917 near Dale, Okla., Clifford lived for short times in New Mexico and Texas and graduated from Dale High School in 1937. He married Alberta F. Feemster in 1937.  He worked as a postal carrier before joining the Army Air Corps where he was stationed at Shepherd Field near Wichita Falls, Texas, until he received a medical discharge.  He spent a short time at Tinker Field near Oklahoma City assembling aircraft engines until the end of WWII.  Clifford attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, and graduated with an Airframe and Engine license in October 1946. He then immediately went to work for Eastern Airlines in Memphis, Tenn.  In 1948 he transferred to Houston with Eastern and worked at Hobby Field until it closed, was involved in the opening of Houston Intercontinental Airport and worked there until he retired in 1984.  Clifford and Alberta moved back to the family farm in Dale.  After his beloved wife passed away in 2005, Clifford remained in Dale until 2007 when he moved to McPherson, Kan., to be near his sons.
He was a very active 50 year member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, both in the Houston area and Lodge #55 in Shawnee and was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Shawnee.  He was a member of the Eastern Airlines Retirees Association. 
He was preceded in death by a brother, Guy, his parents, Willie and Nellie Griggs and wife, Alberta Feemster Griggs.
Clifford is survived by a brother, Robert Griggs and his wife Billie June, of Shawnee; two sons, Jimmy Griggs and his wife Cynthia of McPherson, Kan.; Gerald Griggs and his wife Luz of Goddard, Kan.; four grandchildren, Jesse Griggs of O'Fallon, Mo., Jenny Griggs Gegg of Lincoln, Neb., Jackie Griggs Morris of Kalamazoo, Mich., Janice Griggs of Waldport, Ore.; six great grandchildren, Emma Griggs and Maya Griggs of O'Fallon; Olympia Gegg and Oslo Gegg of Lincoln, Neb.; Jazelle Morris and Joslyn Morris of Kalamazoo, Mich.
Visitation will be on Sunday afternoon, February 7th from 4 to 6 pm at Walker Funeral Home in Shawnee. 
Funeral services will be 10 am on Monday, Feb. 8, 2010 at Walker Funeral Home in Shawnee.  Burial will be at Dale Cemetery.
