Russell Douglas Warden departed this life on Nov. 10, 2009, at Muskogee. He was born on June 24, 1936, near Paden to G. L. “Dan” and Ora Delia Baize Warden, the sixth of seven children who survived to adulthood. He was the grandson of Robert Calloway and Nannie Sephronia Hopper Warden and Joel Melvin and Fannie Alizabeth Combs Baize. He was preceded in death by twin infant brothers (1918); brothers Robert C. “Short” Warden (2005) and Alfred J. Warden (2008); and his mother (1957) and father (1984).
He married Shirley Ann Carter, in Konawa on Dec. 13, 1956, and is survived by her. Also surviving are son, Keith Warden of Muskogee; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Jodi Warden of Tulsa; and son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Karen Warden of Branson, Mo. Also granddaughters, Kayla Warden of Norman, Mary Beth Warden of Tulsa, Danya Warden and Bubba Walker of Muskogee, Katey Warden of Muskogee and Zoe Warden of Tulsa; and grandson, Zane Warden of Tulsa. He is also survived by great-granddaughter, Lillyann Walker and stepgreat-grandson, Conner Walker, both of Muskogee. He also leaves brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Billie Warden of Shawnee; sister-in-law, Sibble Warden of Shawnee; sister, Ida Molander of Shawnee; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Dean Lane of Seminole; and sister, Hazel Muzny of Oklahoma City. Russ leaves a host of other relatives and friends. He will be missed by many.
Russ was a resident of Seminole, Shawnee, Edmond, Norman and Muskogee. He worked for OG&E in the engineering department for a number of years and retired in Muskogee. He was a Christian and was a member of the Chandler Road church of Christ. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, OU football and his children and grandchildren. He graduated from Centerview High School in 1953.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. at the Chandler Road Church of Christ at 3507 Chandler Road (between York Street and Country Club Drive), Muskogee. Jimie-Wray Mead of Kansas and Don Branscum of Muskogee will officiate. A graveside service will be held later that day at 3 p.m. at Little Cemetery, north of Seminole. Dewayne Thomas will officiate there. Services are under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service in Prague.
