SHAWNEE, Okla. —

Longtime Shawnee resident Vera Marie Weingartner, 81, went to be with the Lord Sunday, June 29, 2008.
She was born July 31, 1926, in Blackwell, Okla., to Fred and Sarah (Peters) Fugate.
After Vera graduated from High School, she worked as a candy striper at Blackwell Hospital and then went on to work for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator.
She married Charles Weingartner Feb. 27, 1946. They enjoyed 62 wonderful years of marriage before he died Oct. 29, 2007.
Vera was an avid reader, excellent cook, and loved flower gardening. She never met a stranger. Everyone that met her loved her. She was a devoted and loving wife. Vera was the best mother anyone could ever ask for, and a fantastic grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her dogs, Blondie and Jill. Vera lived her life with love, compassion and respect and will be dearly missed by all.
The family would like to thank her caretakers for bringing life and happiness to her every day. Vera loved each and every one of them.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Verda; and uncle, Walt.
Those left to cherish their memories are her children, Ron Weingartner and wife Bonnie of Canton, Texas, Larry Weingartner and wife Jane of Virginia, Teresa Tortorelli and husband Bob of Oklahoma City; brothers, Fred Fugate Jr. and wife Beth and family of California, Robert Ray Fugate and wife Faye and family of Kansas City, Mo., Jimmy Fugate and wife Linda and family of Newalla; grandchildren, Douglas Murray and daughters Allison and Lauren of Idaho, Robert Stumpf and daughters Morgan and Rylee of Ft.
