Rita Kay Cain of Shawnee, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010 in Shawnee.
She was born on Sept. 5, 1954 at Tinker Air Force Base to Marie Kathleen (Mickish) and Ernest Henry Mellinger. She graduated from Navajo High School in 1973. She married Glenn Doyle Cain of Headrick on April 24, 1973 in Altus, Oklahoma. She worked as a cook for Parkview Nursing home, Mission Hill Hospital and finishing her career after 12 years at COJC with a medical retirement. She was a devoted member of HCE (Home and Community Education) and enjoyed spending time with family, friends and especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Cain and father Ernest Mellinger.
Survivors include daughter, Vicki Campbell and husband Chris of Apache and their daughter Ariel, daughter, Nanci Battles of McAlester and her sons, Levi Pruitt, and Junior and Brycen Battles; mother, Marie Mellinger of Shawnee; sisters, Linda Ervin of Springfield, Ill., Virginia Eswine and husband Bill of Warrensburg, Mo., Debra White and husband Charlie of Shawnee; brothers, Danny Mellinger and wife Kim of Tecumseh, Carl Mellinger and wife Sue of Shawnee; several nieces and nephews and other family and friends.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at Walker Funeral Service.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 30, in the Walker Funeral Service Chapel with burial following at Calvary Cemetery.
