Joseph Wesley Mauldin, 82, of Shawnee, died Nov. 6, 2011, surrounded by family.
He was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Dale to Johnny and Dottie Mauldin. He was the next to the youngest of 10 siblings. He graduated from Dale High School in 1947, where he played basketball for Coach O.C. Walker. On March 27, 1948, he married Joyce Hendershott, his lifelong sweetheart.
He was employed as a vendor for Frito-Lay for 28 years, retiring in 1991. He previously worked for Mendonca Dairy and Wonder Bread.
Mr. Mauldin was a member of the Church of God (7th Day). He enjoyed watching ball games, fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Joyce of 63 years; his son and daughter-in-law, Ronnie and Marla Mauldin of Shawnee; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Marsha Mauldin of Owasso; daughter and son-in-law, Darla and Terry Mitchell of Edmond; and daughter, Jennifer Beggs, of Choctaw. His eight grandchildren are Craig Mauldin, Barry Mauldin, Lisa Swinney, Brett Mauldin, Joseph Mitchell, Terri Mitchell, Ashton Beggs and Connor Beggs. His four great-grandchildren are Logan Swinney, Elijah Swinney, Kassidy Mauldin and Riley Mauldin.
Mr. Mauldin was preceded in death by his parents as well as nine brothers and sisters. They were Linnie Mauldin, Jewell Garner, Vernon Mauldin, Lorene Black, Cecil Mauldin, Travis Mauldin, Louise Wilkins, Johnny “Chock” Mauldin and Leta Mae Hendershott.
The family will greet visitors from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Walker Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Church of God (7th Day) in Shawnee. Burial will be at the Dale Cemetery.
