Tecumseh resident G.H. “Joe” Ball, 91, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009, in Oklahoma City.

Joe was born March 15, 1918, in Okay, Okla., to George and Tyrena (Hardin) Ball.  Raised in the Okay community, he farmed in the Little River area, and has lived west of Tecumseh since 1950.  In 1952 he built his house, making additions later.  He was married to Elsie Butler, and she preceded him in death on May 29, 1981.  

He worked in carpentry and farming, with a passion for gardening and in particular raising cantaloupes.  He also enjoyed country and gospel music, dancing, fishing, playing dominoes, hunting, and anything outdoors.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and a daughter, JoAnn White.

He is survived by, 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Clarence and Carolyn Sue Ball of Shawnee, and Floyd and Lorie Ball of Tecumseh; daughter, Sharon Young of Tecumseh; seven grandchildren, Candy Taylor, Gordon White, Jr., Shawn Ball, Sherry McNew, Jeff Ball,  Brandon Gamble, and Michael Gamble; 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and numerous friends and other family members.

Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at Sharon Baptist Church with the Rev. Clint Dawkins officiating. Burial will be at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

The family has designated the Tecumseh Senior Citizens' Center as appropriate for memorials.
