It was a typical, dog-day Saturday in an Oklahoma summer. The drought that year had wreaked havoc on lakes, rivers, ponds and creeks throughout the state. The morning began like so many others while visiting his dad.

It wasn’t really gold. It was just a gold color. Awarded at the Little Olympics for outstanding individual performance, it was the pinnacle of track and field success for youngsters ages 10-12 throughout the area.
