Some people just don’t seem to get it. A local woman wrote me this week about the bridge being out and under repair on Lake Road between Gaddy and Bethel Roads.
She said crews started work on Monday of this week, just west of Blackburn Chapel.
Access to the church from the west apparently is cut off as the work continues and people have to go around and come in from the east.
She observed for the first couple of days motorists coming from the east apparently thinking they could manage to drive through and on westward, but were having to use the church parking lot as a turnaround.
Apparently drivers just ignored the big sign that says “Road Closed to through traffic” thinking they really could get through.
She indicated it was funny because some would drive up over the hill, drive around the work trucks and then ended up having to turn around in the driveway west of the church.
She said “it’s like they had to make sure the bridge was out or maybe they couldn’t believe it was out.
“Believe me the bridge is out! If a sign says ‘Road Closed to through traffic’ they mean it! It doesn’t bother us if they have to turn around in the parking lot, it keeps us entertained,” she added.
She’s not sure how long it will take them to fix the bridge, but for now the road is closed to through traffic on the Lake Road between Gaddy and Bethel Roads. You cannot get through because the bridge is out.
She’s appreciative they are finally fixing the bridge, “it was getting pretty scary,” she tells me. Another note, she mentioned, is for those coming to the cemetery that is behind the church, please come in on the east side and use the gravel road that goes behind the new building.

The Pottawatomie County Cattle Producers and the OSU Extension Service will co-sponsor an Ag Producers meeting on Thursday, April 30, 6 p.m. in the Tecumseh City Hall, located at 114 North Broadway.
The group will be conducting a “Beef Quality Assurance” training. The Beef Industry Council and the Extension Service are cooperating on trainings throughout the state on best management practices for beef producers.
The Extension Service says these will include processing and treatment with health care medicines, carcass composition and quality, care and husbandry practices, nutrition and record keeping. The program will last over two hours so they point out the time and location change for the meeting.
This program encompasses most aspects of the beef program and will be useful to all beef producers, whether a young person showing at the Junior Livestock Show or a large producer making a living in the beef business. The program is free and open to all interested.
Pottawatomie County Farm Bureau will be sponsoring the meal, so an earlier RSVP than normal is needed because of materials that must be ordered from the Beef Industry Council and for the meal count. Please RSVP by calling 273-7683 no later than Tuesday.
