Glenn Beck decided to attack President Obama’s Christian faith at his latest rally. He says Obama is not the right kind of Christian. I guess that means if you don’t have the same religious beliefs as Beck, who is a Mormon, you are not the right kind of Christian either.
My wife and I use the walking path around the airport many times a week throughout the year. We have used this path for many years and enjoy watching the Scissortailed flycatchers and Nighthawks. The frequent airplane or helicopter add to the variety of aerial menagerie.
My wife graduated from Shawnee High School in 1950. A classmate, Steve Cowen, calls it the Nifty Fifty Class because graduates have excelled in practically every field of endeavor using as their base the education they absorbed in the excellent Shawnee Public School system.
I was approximately 90 percent sure that Philip Maddocks’ editorial in Saturday’s paper, “Obama accused of demonizing those who say he is Muslim” was a satire piece, similar to those written by the fake-news organization “The Onion.”
I am recently known as the individual that set off the explosion on Saturday, Aug. 7, at approximately 8:50 p.m. I would like to apologize and clarify a few discrepancies and make a future promise to the public.
I would like to begin by stating that I am sorry for upsetting a number of people. Setting off such a large target was not the original plan. We intended on shooting many small ones but due to some time delays, we were unable to do so. According to the use of binary explosive laws, we could not legally leave the mixed contents unattended; therefore, we had to destroy them.
When I read the result of the Commissioners’ meeting concerning the alarm ordinance, I felt that the issue needed a to be addressed. Unlike Oren LeCompte, I failed to voice my opinion choosing the easier path of no resistance. Oren’s letter snapped me back to reality and for this I thank you.
Sorry for another letter so soon but just had to respond about the proposed alarm ordinance. I have the utmost respect and appreciation for all police and fire personnel. My deceased wife’s cousin is a member of the Shawnee Sheriffs department, my brother-in-law is retired from the OKC Police dept. and my nephew is currently a member of the OKC Police Dept.
Our Oklahoma legislature spent the first few months of their session passing legislation that created an additional 10 questions for the November ballot. All the while ignoring the pressing issue of the budget. Most of those state questions seem to be specifically designed to keep the current legislative majority in the majority. As usual the constitutional changes proposed will do absolutely nothing to better the Oklahoma economy or decrease our budget woes.
This letter is in response to your editorial “Much too Costly” in which you stated that we can’t afford additional funding for education. Your opinion and mine differ considerably on this issue.
I just added up all my school receipts. The horrible truth- $537.42 — what in the world could a teacher buy for her classroom that could cost that much?
Just more BIOB (Blame It On Bush) from Jo. Seems Obama’s buck stops anywhere but here.
In 1994, during Clinton’s administration, the new Republican Congress stopped his spending increases putting an end to budget deficits, and America enjoyed growth led by the private sector where prosperity was widely shared and job creation was robust.
During the 1990s, under the guidance of the Clinton administration, the government put an end to budget deficits, and America enjoyed a period of growth led by the private sector where prosperity was widely shared and job creation was robust.
If my assumptions are correct, Pottawatomie County had a total of 9,757 votes cast in Tuesday’s primary election (5,412 Democrat, 4192 Republican, and 153 Independent). Figures are based on Shawnee News-Star 7-28-2010, Section B, Pages 4-5. Only two candidates ran for County D.A. both Democrats. How can the County District Attorney’s race be fair when 44.5 percent of the voters were disenfranchised from voting for either candidate?
“The Ole Hometown.” Upon hearing those words, does it take you down nostalgia road? Reminding you of fond memories of days gone by or does it remind you of the friends you left behind?
Dear Editor,
The case for reinstituting the military draft is stronger than ever and impacts our military posture, social structure and national economy.
Dear Editor,
I would like to personally thank all of the citizens of this community who participated in our first parade for veterans on July 3.
I remember when downtown Shawnee was a thriving and bustling area.
Also the high school and junior high school was on or near Union and Highland Street, which added to the traffic in the downtown area.
Have you heard some politicians mention the opponent has “lost his way”? In my opinion, my hometown of McLoud has lost its way. If the sitting governing body ever cared about the people of the city, it no longer has that innocence.
In response to Ray Mullen, again I find Mr.Mullen that it seems you’re not getting the whole picture. I concur that it is dangerous and people (innocent) get hurt.
Policies are in place at Shawnee and training is provided to each officer, so that when they are in a pursuit, the officer can do the job as safely as possible. Regretfully accidents happen! My question to you is what would you do?
In reply to Mr. Ray Mullen Sr.
Mr. Mullens, I understand your concerns about the safety of the officers, and the innocent bystanders during a police pursuit. Regretfully, the offenders don’t care. All they care about is getting away with their crime, whether it be a misdemeanor, traffic violation, bank robbery or murder.
We were recently wiped out completely by the May 10 tornado at 44239 Hwy 9 in Tecumseh. Although so many people were so good to us, we had another loss that has upset us tremendously. After losing our home, shop, storage shed, barn, golf cart and motor home, someone stole our tow bar for our motor home, which will cost us about $500 to replace. How could anyone steal from someone who had just lost everything?
