In response to Ray Mullen, again I find Mr.Mullen that it seems you’re not getting the whole picture. I concur that it is dangerous and people (innocent) get hurt.
Policies are in place at Shawnee and training is provided to each officer, so that when they are in a pursuit, the officer can do the job as safely as possible. Regretfully accidents happen! My question to you is what would you do?
Would you just let every crime go if it took a pursiut to stop the crime? You mentioned the article in USA Today, how reliable are those numbers and did it happen to mention how many people would be killed if the police didn’t pursue and take the suspect in to custody.
I’m talking about while the suspect is loose and running amuck in the neihborhood. Many times a pursuit is called off, when it becomes too dangerous, either by the officer or their supervisor.
Very few times do you happen to have the suspect info in your hands and have the option of a followup later.
Maybe we’re both kicking a dead horse, but I believe it is necessary to pursue, to take a suspect into custody as soon as possible, to avoid future death and injury to the innocent. Shawnee has a good, well trained police department, with officers that have good judgement! Let them do their job and let’s pray when things don’t go as planned.
