Our Oklahoma legislature spent the first few months of their session passing legislation that created an additional 10 questions for the November ballot. All the while ignoring the pressing issue of the budget. Most of those state questions seem to be specifically designed to keep the current legislative majority in the majority. As usual the constitutional changes proposed will do absolutely nothing to better the Oklahoma economy or decrease our budget woes.
State questions often confuse some of the voters and often actually keep voters from voting because they are not sure whether leaving some questions blank will negate their ballot. For the record, I checked with the election board and leaving some or all of a ballot blank will not negate any of the votes taken on a ballot.
If you would like a head start on studying and understanding these questions. They are now available on the web at https://www.sos.ok.gov/gov/proposed_questions.aspx
When you decide who to vote for in November, please consider asking the candidates whether they will put budget issues at the forefront and try to solve those issues before tackling other issues. Procrastination costs us money. The earlier state agencies and schools have the numbers available to make their budgets, the better equipped they will be to make the best decision.
