Fall Fest Community Outreach 2009 will go down as a great success for Shawnee and the surrounding area. Shawnee Rescue Mission/Labor of Love Charities and 100-plus volunteers from many area churches and businesses came together for a wonderful day in Woodland Veteran’s Park last week. With food and drinks supplied by local businesses, over 3,500 meals were served. At least 550 families were given a wide variety of foods/supplies provided by Feed the Children. Free clothes, coats, hats and shoes were given to all who wished to take them.
There are many individuals in our community who give their time and love to help those less fortunate and it blesses my heart to be a part of this great effort. We have young people who feed many of the homeless in the park each week, we have groups, both young and old, who provide needed items to individuals every day. Transportation is provided when needed.  Shawnee is greatly blessed by all the loving, caring people that calls this “our home town”.
As you pass by the “soon to be in operation” building on South Beard, join all of Shawnee in thanking God for all He has done for us as He works through Christians and loving people who want to make Shawnee a better place to call home. We welcome all who are interested in helping us “help Shawnee” to call 878-8700 to see how you can become involved. Also keep your eyes open to the upcoming events that will benefit the efforts of Shawnee Rescue Mission/Labor of Love Charities to become what God wants it to be. Thank all of you for your support.
