Democratic sign vandalism cowardly

I hope everyone had a great holiday. Our Kansas City family finally made it here safely Saturday night and our holiday began. The first thing they said when they came in the door was “What happened to our Democratic Sign on 102?” We told them we had no idea but we all climbed in the car to check it out and found that someone had taken a chain saw to it this time and sawed it down at ground level. This is the fourth time the sign has been vandalized. The other times, we were told it was done by an older man in an older white truck but no one got the tag number. It was always done in the daytime too because neighborhood children said it would be up when the school bus went to school and down when they came home.
Despite the fact that most Oklahomans usually vote Republican now, our neighborhood has several Democrats and several nice Republicans who would never destroy other people’s property. Many of them have made comments, Republicans included, about the vandalism that are not printable in the paper regarding the character of the vandal.
If the person who destroys our sign lives near here, they should have also noticed that we keep the weeds and trees away from the sign and that increases visibility at a very dangerous corner. It also makes it a lot easier to give directions to people who are visiting from another area for the first time. Many of our neighbors appreciate that. Just like they appreciate our attempt to clear the country road with our tractor when it snows.
Plans are naturally under way to replace the sign differently and the cowards will need to find a different way to destroy it, which I am sure they can. I truly wonder if a person can actually be proud of doing something like this. Are they so inarticulate that the only way they can get their point across is with a sneaky act that attempts to take away our right of free speech? I don’t know about the rest of you but I am proud to be on the other side of politics from anyone who acts like that.
