Normally I don’t let the frequent letters by the “fanatical four” bother me, as a matter of fact I believe these letters as well as those from the far left are of some benefit, causing us all to pause and think. However, after the last letter sometime last week which accused the President of the United States of being a false Christian and a secret Muslim, I had to write. In this country we are allowed to worship in freedom and have no need to hide our true faith. To question the sincerity of another personís faith is without a doubt crossing the line.
I do not believe it is or should be this paper’s philosophy to allow this kind of rhetoric. I am disappointed this individual and his cronies have suddenly lost their sense of patriotism after eight years of defending our last president’s every move. We were all warned that our opinions about the war and our past president were harmful to our brave troops risking their lives for our freedom to speak. If that was true then, is it not true now? America is a family and though we may disagree on issues, it should never reach the level of last weekís letter. This type of rhetoric is fear based and worked well in 2000-2004 but America is wising up to your technique. These are the same individuals who do not want government in health care but either cash or will cash their SS checks when eligible and who will be the first to sign up for Medicare or already have. They prefer to trust Corporations (motivated by profits), over government (controlled by democratic process), they actually think bureaucracy is better in the corporate world despite what the last year has shown us. It is true we have many problems in our country, but we (men, women, black, white, red, brown and yellow) are family, and can solve it all with just a little common sense and yes just a little common decency.
