I’m a 72-year-old senior citizen who is happy (and healthy!) with Medicare and a medigap supplement from a private insurance company. I believe that this is the best way to cover all Americans. Our current situation has many people not covered by insurance. They get sick and sicker and then turn up in the emergency room, where they must receive care. Going to the emergency room is the most expensive way for the sick to receive care.
This is penny-wise and pound foolish. I was a member of the Kaiser Permanente HMO several years ago. They knew that it was wise for their members to have regular check-ups to catch diseases in the early stages. They made money and their clients were healthier because of this preventive care. Medicare offers similar advantages. It is the fiscally responsible, conservative thing to do to pass a “Medicare for all” plan.
