Go after those who speed, not people with alarms

Sorry for another letter so soon but just had to respond about the proposed alarm ordinance. I have the utmost respect and appreciation for all police and fire personnel. My deceased wife’s cousin is a member of the Shawnee Sheriffs department, my brother-in-law is retired from the OKC Police dept. and my nephew is currently a member of the OKC Police Dept.
The proposed new false alarm ordinance the city commissioners are considering is absolutely absurd. Isn’t this one of the duties we already pay for? Charging $25 application fee, $15 annual renewal license fee and $25 fine plus costs (?) and $100 fine plus costs (?) for each subsequent false alarm is wrong. Just how much more are we going to have to ante up to live in Shawnee? Vice Mayor Frank Sims wants to double, or higher, the proposed fines for false alarms. I’ve had 3 false alarms in 11 years.
Don’t know about you, but I’m about maxed out on all the taxes and fees I already pay just to live in a home I worked all my life to pay for. I, like so many others, live on social security and what savings I have been able to accumulate. Come on commissioners wake up, we are already paying for the services of our very special law enforcement personnel.
Much more income is available to the city of Shawnee if more radar units were used. I drive on Bryan Street most everywhere I go and I always set my speed right on the speed limit. Invariably 90 percent of the time, on any street, there’s a goof ball about 5 feet off my bumper just daring me to not speed up. Needless to say, if they follow me they will be within the speed limit. I was traveling east on Bradley recently and a Ford Mustang was right on my bumper. I stopped at the stop sign on Bradley and Autumn Lane, the Mustang whipped out around me speeding up like a mad person, ran the stop sign and traveled at high speed to Bryan and turned south. By the time I got to Bryan the Mustang was already out of sight. I encounter speeders everyday I drive in Shawnee. Here’s a windfall of money just waiting to be tapped.
Come on Commissioners, we all don’t have deep pockets.
