Dear Editor,
The promise of a free meal given all across America showing appreciation to all veterans by Golden Corral Restaurants found Shawnee’s Golden Corral’s parking lot jammed to overflowing, causing people to return at a later time, while veterans with their spouses, families or friends lined up outside down the sidewalk. The cutting jabs by the cold north wind tried to dampen the excitement of the free “thanks giving” meal gift for veteran’s service to America and citizens, on Monday, Nov. 16, 5–9 p.m.
Shawnee’s VFW staff joined others in greeting as stickers stating “thanks,” were stuck on shoulders and small American flag pins were given to each person. General Manager Derek and Assistant Manager Rhonda were on hand to greet each person, find them an empty seat and make sure every thing ran smoothly.
Smiling, courteous, friendly and helpful staff fed 713 veterans, making sure tea glasses and coffee cups were replenished, plus tables cleared, as containers were kept full of delicious food.
Managers Derek and Rhonda, cashiers, food servers, waiters and waitresses, all together, you made some precious memories for both male and female veterans of all ages, and their loved ones, by showing appreciation for their service and sacrifices no matter whether current, recent or many decades ago.
Thanks Golden Corral! You did a great job! Keep up the good work, good service and good food!
