The goal of the Republican Party according to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is to defeat the reelection bid of President Barack Obama. I can appreciate their objective, but must ask, at what price to the Middle Class, the working poor and the poor.
The Minority Party has become the Majority Party in the Senate through the use of the Filibuster that demands a 60 vote majority for the passage of a bill or the approval of a Presidential appointment. We live in a country where the majority rules in every situation, except in the United States Senate.
The Republican Majority in the House of Representatives under the leadership of Speaker Boehner have taken a vacation for the entire month of January. With the extravagant application of the filibuster by the Minority Party in the U.S. Senate and the lack of work ethics of the Majority Party in the House of Representatives their leadership could be compared to that of Nero’s of whom it’s said, “he fiddled while Rome burned’’.
