Dear Editor,
We’ve seen the leaves clothed in majestic colors the past few weeks, depicting the touch of the Master’s hand, for all to enjoy as we drove down Main Street, Union, Broadway, and all the other streets in Shawnee. Their beauty is fading as they cover the ground, being a nuisance to some, but a blessing in disguise providing mulch for others.
November is here! It’s “Thanks Giving” time! It reminds us to give thanks for our many blessings that God has bestowed upon us. It is easy to get lost in the media fog of negativism, but there’s too much beauty abounding in Shawnee to be negative. Our Spirits soar when we drive by the beautiful landscaping of downtown; plus, all the beautiful old and new churches and homes; many being remodeled and restored, lifting our spirits to heights we’ve never soared before, while the dollar decreases and our needs, cravings and yearnings daily increases.
Shawnee and area has been blessed with some wonderful people that keeps progress on the move as this season progresses into the harvesting of crops. All that takes us back to thoughts of school days, making crafts and in programs of the Pilgrims celebrating their first Thanksgiving. May we let those thoughts take us to the One from whom all blessings flow. May we never forget to give thanks to God, our Creator, for blessings which have been abundantly ours in the past and have faith in God for these dark and troubling times. May we give thanks also for our friends, neighbors and all that work to make “our” town a safer, healthier, friendlier, cleaner and better “hometown.” It’s “Thanks Giving” time.
