Want to volunteer on Oct. 23
I was just wondering if anyone in Shawnee any of the companies or any individual people are doing volunteer work Oct. 23 for Make a Difference Day because I would be interested in knowing about it and maybe some other people would too.
People shouldn’t use school dumpsters
As an employee of the school district — a custodian — I would like to complain about the community using our dumpsters, filling them up, putting it all on the outside of the dumpster, then when you come in at 6:30 in the morning, you’ve got a community clean up.
Why is granite being purchased from China?
I am really thankful for the Veterans Memorial that’s being built but when I read that the granite is being purchased from China, I was quite irritated. What about our own resources in the good ole U.S.A. that these veterans fought to defend?
Thankful for new street light
This is pertaining to my light out in the alley, my big light on the pole, and I just want to thank OG&E or whatever people are responsible for that. We’ve lived here 60 years and this is the best lighting. I can see my entire backyard under lights now and again, I thank them for it.
Skatepark brought in kids who smoke, tear things up
The other day, as me and my son were leaving Kidspace, he looked up at me and said, “Daddy, when they put that skatepark in, they just ruined it because now all the big kids come over here and tear things up and they’re smoking cigarettes and stuff. They just ruined it.”
Vendors were great, but parking at rodeo needs work
I went out to the rodeo while it was here to visit the vendors and the most disappointing thing was the parking lot. There was no organization or parking skills involved. People were parked everywhere.
When will there be 55 Alive courses?
When will we be seeing something on the 55 Alive driving courses in Shawnee? I would appreciate seeing some dates and location.
Child more important than Blackberry
Did anyone see red, as I did, when one or more of the TV stations announced that a good way to keep from leaving your child in the backseat of the car is to put something back there with it like a Blackberry or something that you will have to have. What is more important than your baby?
Is anyone going to fix road to cemetery?
I was just wondering if anybody is going to do anything to the road past the bridge at the South Canadian to Tecumseh Cemetery. I just knocked my car out of line coming home from work. You can’t see the lines or nothing at night and there’s such big holes. So can anyone sue the county if you tear up your car on this reason?
At night, guard will walk women to car
I think the women of Shawnee should be wise to know that our hospital out here north of town, Unity North, has a security guard to walk you to the car when it’s late at night.
Bryan St. might help Harrison congestion
In regards to extending Bryan Street to Interstate 40, I realize it would be very, very expensive but I don’t know if anyone has noticed how heavy the traffic is on Harrison at certain times of the day. The left-turn lane will be backed up to the exit at I-40 at different times of the day.
Keep your car up-to-date
Since the annual mandatory vehicle inspection went away, there’s sure a lot of cars on the road with one headlight or taillight. Please people, it doesn’t take much expense or time to keep your car mechanically sound.
Thanks for taking over McLoud’s Friday Gazette
Thank you for taking over the McLoud local newspaper (now Friday Gazette). I cannot believe that in such a short time.
Drip both hot and cold water during freezing temperatures
I just wanted to remind people that when you drip your faucet during a freeze, you need to drip both the hot and the cold. I did not know that, to my detriment, this past storm. I just wanted to pass on this information.
Each person should be responsible for own health
What would happen if each one of us took responsibility for our own health? How about making health insurance a priority purchase ahead of that new car or big screen TV? What about making good personal health choices and taking responsibility for poor ones. Should other taxpayers shoulder the burden of your bad decisions? Just wondered.
People in Bethel Acres should take care of their big dogs
I was just reading your ad in the paper today about the big dogs and the coyotes in Bethel Acres. We do have coyotes but we also have a lot of dogs running loose because there’s no leash law.
Community service hours should keep streets cleaner
With all the community service hours assigned through the courts, why can’t we keep more of the trash picked up on our city streets?
Thanks to Cooper family for service
I enjoyed the feature on the Cooper family. While theirs is a job many people could not do, it is vital to the community and I thank them for generations of professional, compassionate service.
New decorations not very impressive
I must say that I’m not too impressed with Tecumseh’s new Christmas decorations, the garland that wraps around their new lights downtown. Half of them don’t even light up at night and they don’t look very pretty.
Missing Dear Abby column, comic strips in paper
I sure do miss the comic strips that are never in the paper anymore, and I also miss Dear Abby. She's not in there a lot of the time, and I miss it when it's not in there.
