Bryan St. might help Harrison congestion
In regards to extending Bryan Street to Interstate 40, I realize it would be very, very expensive but I don’t know if anyone has noticed how heavy the traffic is on Harrison at certain times of the day. The left-turn lane will be backed up to the exit at I-40 at different times of the day.

Keep your car up-to-date
Since the annual mandatory vehicle inspection went away, there’s sure a lot of cars on the road with one headlight or taillight. Please people, it doesn’t take much expense or time to keep your car mechanically sound.

Thanks for taking over McLoud’s Friday Gazette
Thank you for taking over the McLoud local newspaper (now Friday Gazette). I cannot believe that in such a short time.

Drip both hot and cold water during freezing temperatures
I just wanted to remind people that when you drip your faucet during a freeze, you need to drip both the hot and the cold. I did not know that, to my detriment, this past storm. I just wanted to pass on this information.

Each person should be responsible for own health
What would happen if each one of us took responsibility for our own health? How about making health insurance a priority purchase ahead of that new car or big screen TV? What about making good personal health choices and taking responsibility for poor ones. Should other taxpayers shoulder the burden of your bad decisions? Just wondered.

People in Bethel Acres should take care of their big dogs
I was just reading your ad in the paper today about the big dogs and the coyotes in Bethel Acres. We do have coyotes but we also have a lot of dogs running loose because there’s no leash law.

Community service hours should keep streets cleaner
With all the community service hours assigned through the courts, why can’t we keep more of the trash picked up on our city streets?

Thanks to Cooper family for service
I enjoyed the feature on the Cooper family. While theirs is a job many people could not do, it is vital to the community and I thank them for generations of professional, compassionate service.

New decorations not very impressive
I must say that I’m not too impressed with Tecumseh’s new Christmas decorations, the garland that wraps around their new lights downtown. Half of them don’t even light up at night and they don’t look very pretty.

Missing Dear Abby column, comic strips in paper

I sure do miss the comic strips that are never in the paper anymore, and I also miss Dear Abby.  She's not in there a lot of the time, and I miss it when it's not in there.

Kudos to Fallin for voting against reform
Kudos to Mary Fallin for voting against the health care reform. With the last four presidents running the organizations that want global government instead of sovereignty, we should be jealous about what power we give them. Thank you Mary.

Thanks for sponsoring Project Canine, helping puppies
I just wanted to call and thank the Shawnee News-Star for sponsoring Project Canine. These puppies, these dogs, they needed homes and they needed them now. I think people were a little mean spirited who were objecting to this. I wasn’t able to adopt a dog but I did give some money to help buy food and I just really thank the Tri-County Humane Society. I didn’t know that we had one and I’m just so glad we have one. God bless you.

Why are comments not making it in?
We’ve called several times and you never print our comments, so is it that you don’t print comments that speak positive about Obama or is it that you just don’t print comments that come from Blacks?

Shawnee police should ticket handicap parking violators
I’m handicapped and I’m in a wheelchair and I’d like to complain about all the people who like to block handicap parking places with shopping carts.

Water company won’t give extension
I’m calling about my water bill. I went to go make a payment and they told me I got a cutoff notice for Oct. 13 and I told them I don’t get paid until the 14th. They wouldn’t give me a one-day extension. They said they’d go ahead and cut my water off and charge me an extra $50 to turn it back on. I think it’s downright ornery and I’m angry at these people. What can we do about this? I hope you print this.

Are dump trucks paying taxes for repairs on Coker Road?
I am wondering if the dump trucks that go down Coker Road south of SH 9 carrying large commercial and residential trash loads are paying the taxes that are going to be needed to fix Coker Road. Just wondering. There’s been about 10 go by this morning and it’s barely 10 a.m.

Why are Shawnee’s gas prices so high?
I would just like to know why Shawnee’s gas prices are so high when in Oklahoma City gas is down to $2.16 a gallon.

Unless it’s fixed, how long until Medicare goes broke?
I’m an independent and I’ve been watching television and reading the paper about the health care. I just went on Medicare and I’ve been asking myself, if something isn’t fixed with Medicare, how long will it last after seven or eight years when it goes broke?

Pleased with  county fair information seen in the paper
I was quite pleased to read about the county fair and the rules and regulations for the vegetables and flower category.

What is the normal lake level?

The News-Star always lists the Shawnee Twin Lakes’ level but never what the normal is. I don’t know if it’s high or low.
