I believe people who write letters to the editor do so with the hope of persuading readers to consider their viewpoint. Hopefully, those readers will include local elected representatives as the issues often written about concern very important civic matters. However, on one issue in particular, the proposed Regional Ball Park, there have been several well written letters that seem to be falling on the deaf ears of our city commissioners.
It has been pointed out that the cost to build the ball park will be at the taxpayer’s expense. The taxpayer will not only bear the burden of the initial cost, but also the continued cost for maintenance and repairs. A report based on a study and analysis of this project concluded, among other things, that the ball park could not be self-sustaining. A study, by the way, commissioned by the very same city representatives who are proposing this project. It seems our city leaders not only fail to consider the viewpoint of their constituents but also choose to disregard the conclusions drawn by their own report.
