I have been a member of the NRA for many years. It’s just one of my charities that I donate to. With each yearly membership, you receive your choice of two monthly magazines, the American Rifleman or the American Hunter. They are both good magazines.
The NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action (ILA) reminds the readers of these magazines that behind the scenes they are in constant political battles with anti-gun extremists. The NRA-ILA reminds us they are exclusively dedicated to meeting with legislators, fighting court battles, electing candidates and waging the day-to-day, hour-by-hour wars necessary to protect the Second Amendment.
We are reminded that our founding fathers gave us the Second Amendment because they knew the widespread ownership of firearms by law-abiding citizens was the only way to ensure the future of freedom. The Bill of Rights Amendment II states; “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
The far left anti-gun politicians (and there are many) who have been duly elected to office claim the Second Amendment applies to them, the federal government. That is a lie. We are reminded by the Declaration of Independence; “That whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, It is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.”
How far do you think the people of Syria would get if they politely ask their dictator Bashar al-Assad to step down? As long as the common law-abiding citizen of this country is armed, the better chance of continued freedom ourselves and our posterity will have. It is imperative we elect people to office who believe the Second Amendment applies to the people, not the government.
Ronald Reagan once said, “Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away from extinction. It’s not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people. Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again.”
As long as time exists, so will evil men.
