SEF banquet to honor Kennon, area teachers slated for Feb. 4

Shawnee Educational Foundation Hall of Fame Banquet is scheduled Thursday, Feb. 4, in the Geiger Center at OBU, April Stobbe has announced. It will begin at 7 p.m. and will honor Hall of Fame recipient, Frank Kennon, and area grant winning teachers.
Tickets may be reserved for a minimum donation of $25 per person. Donors who give $100 or more will receive an invitation to the pre-banquet reception honoring the Hall of Fame Recipient, Frank Kennon, hosted by the Cleo L. Craig Foundation, Stobbe explained.
 A silent auction at the Geiger Center will feature step stools decorated by area teachers/classrooms.  
Grant winning teachers will be recognized at the banquet.
To make reservations, mail donations to Shawnee Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 3521, Shawnee, OK 74802-3521. Additional questions may be answered by calling John Howard, 275-1971.
These are the 2009-2010 Shawnee Educational grants (Proposals Funded).
Grants were funded for teachers from Horace Mann, Sequoyah, Grove, Will Rogers, Jefferson, Shawnee Middle School, Shawnee High School, Early Childhood Center, North Rock Creek, South Rock Creek, and South Rock Creek, Stobbe said.

Tecumseh’s Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual auction and dinner on Monday, Feb. 8, at the Citizen Potawatomi Nation Cultural Heritage Center. The Silent auction begins at 6 p.m. and the dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.
Chamber officials said they are unable to sell tickets at the door and they must have a final count by 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29. The meal is being catered that evening by Jerry Kuhn and One Way Youth Ministries.
Tickets are $20 each.
The meal will consist of steak and chicken, with baked potatoes, green beans and salad. Chamber officials note dessert will be provided by many of Tecumseh’s finest and your choice will be determined by your table “in our increasingly popular dessert auction.”

Candidates for Office No. 5 on the Tecumseh Board of Education will participate in a candidate forum this Monday, Jan. 25, sponsored by PAVE (Pottawatomie Co. Advocates for Voter Education).
The forum is set to begin at 7 p.m. in the Tecumseh City Hall council chambers. Ronnye Sharp will serve as moderator.
Three people are seeking the open seat on the Tecumseh school board. They are Mike Atchley, Sheila Evans and David Qualls, the incumbent. All three have agreed to participate.
The candidates will give brief opening statements and then answer written questions submitted from the audience and screened for relevance and duplication. Responses will be subject to a time limit, and no rebuttals will be allowed.
The forum is open to the public at no charge.
It will be the first forum of the election year for PAVE. Future dates for other races will be announced later, said president Marilyn Bradford.

The deadline to purchase tickets for the Shawnee Police Foundation banquet scheduled for Monday, Feb. 8, is Tuesday, Feb. 2, Tom Keller, SPF president said. Keller stated for tickets people may call the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce at (405) 273-6092 or they can call Unity Hospital at (405) 878-8110.  Tickets are $25 for individuals and $300 for a table of six.
The banquet is being held at the Geiger Center on the OBU campus. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with a reception.
Dinner will follow shortly after 7. He said the tables will have white table clothes with navy and gold napkins. The menu for the evening is Chick Coq Au Vin, with a tossed green salad, green beans, red potatoes and for dessert Italian Crème cake and chocolate cake. Drinks are coffee, tea and water.
After dinner is completed, the attendees will hear from Lt. Col. John Harris, assistant chief of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
His talk and a brief history of the OHP will be followed by the presentation of awards.
The awards include Officer of the Year, Civilian Employee of the Year and Sentinel of the Year.
Keller said awards also will be presented to Supporter of the Year and a SPF Volunteer of the Year.
