In reply to Mr. Ray Mullen Sr.
Mr. Mullens, I understand your concerns about the safety of the officers, and the innocent bystanders during a police pursuit. Regretfully, the offenders don’t care. All they care about is getting away with their crime, whether it be a misdemeanor, traffic violation, bank robbery or murder.
But guess what? The officer pursuing usually doesn’t know why the suspect is running. So the officer has to make a judgment call, whether to pursue or not to pursue.
Did you ever notice how many times the police called off the pursuit and the suspect kept going and was involved in a serious accident anyway? The bottom line is, if you don’t pursue, it will soon get to the point where anyone that runs a stop sign won’t stop for the police, because they know the police won’t chase them.
Think about it a moment. This is what police do. They pursue criminals, and yes, sometimes it is very dangerous. No officer wants to hurt anyone, especially themselves. But accidents happen. It’s the nature of the beast.
By the way, the pursuit that occurred with the accident happened on the midnight shift when traffic is not that heavy.
