Shawnee city commissioners will open bids on the new Shawnee Regional Airport terminal building during their meeting Monday night.
Assistant Airport Manager Rex Hennen said a pre-bid conference was held at the airport terminal recently and approximately 13 general contractors along with some subcontractors participated.
He estimated around 40 people attended the pre-bid meeting which lasted for about 1 1/2 hours. Hennen has said after the bids are opened Monday night, the commission will be asked to defer action until staff can tally and review all the bids.
He anticipates a recommendation for the commission will be ready for the Feb. 16 commission meeting. Hennen said “hopefully a bid can be awarded at that time.”
The bid documents will have to be sent to the Economic Development Administration for review. COEDD is administering the $325,000 EDA grant for the project.
Other sources of funding include:
• a $275,000 grant from the state Aeronautics Commission
• $210,000 from the sale of land to OBU and the Shawnee Little Theatre.
• $65,000 from the capital improvement loan fund from the city of Shawnee.
During Monday night’s meeting commissioners also will hear a presentation from Gordona Rowell, executive director of the Convention and Visitor Bureau, on the annual report of the CVB.
Commissioners also are expected to discuss setting a time, date and place for a public hearing on the proposed Bryan Street Interchange at I-40.
An executive session is also scheduled to discuss a collective bargaining agreement with the local firefighters union and there is an item as well to consider entering into agreement with the firefighters.

Deputy assessors will be at two rural locations in southwest Lincoln County and in Sparks the week of Feb. 8 to take exemption applications and personal property assessments. Lincoln County Assessor Randy Wintz said assessment business can be done on Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Kickapoo Friends Mission from 9 a.m. to 12 noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. On Wednesday, Feb. 10, deputy assessors will be at the Sparks school building from 9 a.m. to noon and at Mammoth Baptist Church from 1 to 4 p.m.
Wintz said that Oklahoma law requires all personal property, except livestock and household furnishings, to be listed and assessed each year during the Jan. 1 through March 15 assessment period. Among the property that must be listed and assessed are tractors, farm machinery, farm equipment, business inventories, business fixtures and business equipment, he said.
New homestead exemption applications, double homestead exemption applications and senior valuation freeze applications must also be filed no later than March 15 to be effective for the 2010 tax year.
Wintz also reminded the 100 percent disabled veterans to bring their letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs confirming eligibility if they are applying for the 100 percent Disabled Veterans Exemption for the first time.
