Welcome 2012! I have always liked the changing of the year because I like writing a new number. I get bored with the same old numbers and 2011 was certainly not a very exciting one. It was very straight forward and plain. The year was great, but the numbers not so much. But…..2012 adds some excitement, variety and panache. The number 2 can be written in so many different ways. Go ahead, try it, I guarantee you will at least smile!
I want to take this opportunity to thank our neighbors to the south, Citizen Potawatomi Nation. While Shawnee has talked about things, CPN has gotten them done and I believe with proper signage and advertising the people of Shawnee will reap some of the benefits. Not only can we use the variety of things built by the CPN but our local businesses can share in the excitement and dividends. After viewing the beautiful Cultural Heritage Center just drive a little north and visit the Mabee Gerrer Museum of Art. Shop downtown Shawnee for antiques and collectibles. Drive a few miles east to Harrison and see a vintage car collection.
If you have not driven south on Beard Street down around the Hardesty Road and “old Mission Hill” area you are in for a treat. Just like the song says, “it’s a whole new world”! The growth and activity changes daily in the physical landscape as well as the services offered. Thanks to the foresight, dedication and commitment of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation and more specifically their Chairman John “Rocky” Barrett, we have an entertainment area and services second to none.
I say embrace what others are doing or have done. Partner with them to make Shawnee the place to be. Take advantage of what CPN and others do for “our community.” Don’t have the attitude of “we need to have our own.” Use the resources we have all been blessed with.
Happy New Year to everyone! May you live as long as you want and never want as long as you live! Be Blessed and Wonderful!
