When you feel like you have no hope, there is a proof for hope. Even at the worst time of your life, if you’re still breathing, that means you’re still here. If you’re still here, that means you haven’t yet accomplished what you were put here to accomplish. If you haven’t accomplished what you were put here to accomplish, that means your purpose in life hasn’t been fulfilled.
If your purpose hasn’t been fulfilled, that means the most important thing in your life is still ahead of you. It doesn’t matter how old you are, how sick you are, how depressed you might be, or broke you might feel at the moment, there is more. Search for that more. But, without effort and growth you may be right. You have no hope.
In the Bible 2 Peter 1:5-7 tells us how to grow step by step as Christians but these steps work equally well if applied to all areas of our life. The parentheses are mine. “……. make every effort (be diligent, hard-working) to supplement your faith (a confident belief in the truth or value of a person, idea, or thing) with virtue (moral excellence, high principles), and virtue with knowledge (full understanding of facts and history), and knowledge with self-control (tightly managed actions, feelings and emotions), and self-control with steadfastness (faithfulness to obligations and duties), and steadfastness with godliness (holy devotion), and godliness with brotherly affection (intended good will to all, friend or foe), and brotherly affection with love (the hardest of all, true tender affections and concern for all human beings).
Each step builds on the previous and if you skip one, you will be stuck. If we complain, blame others or sit in self pity, none of us will ever know our purpose. Humdrum or world changing, strive with all diligence to find why God put you here. Work to change yourself. You will find your purpose and hope will return.
