DALE – There was never much doubt who had the advantage Tuesday as Dale walloped Konawa 12-2 in four innings.
The majority of those runs came in the second inning, where the Lady Pirates rallied for nine runs.
London Calvillo led off with a single and was brought in on a double from Lacey Savage, Mikayla Rutland scored on an error, Delanie Manning took a bean with bases loaded and Emmy Idelman and Rutland each had a two-run single.
Calvillo and Savage were both 2-3 and Mo Lam was 2-2 with three RBI. Lam singled to drive in Jobey Savage and Rylie Premo in the bottom of the first.
Premo threw for 1 2/3 innings and gave up two runs in the second. Freshman Danyn Lang replaced the struggling Premo to close and fanned two batters. Neither girl gave up a walk.
“Always good to see a freshman throw well,” coach Andy Powell said.
The Lady Pirates will have a chance Thursday to take revenge against the only team that has beaten them this season, when they host Bethel and powerhouse pitcher Jordyn Zachary. Zachary struck out 10 and allowed three hits in the 1-0 Wildcats win. Powell is looking forward to the opportunity for his girls to face her again.
“We're looking forward to that. Hopefully we can do a little bit better of a job against her but obviously she is really throwing it well,” Powell said. “She got beat on Saturday, but she threw six shutout innings before that.”
Dale and Bethel will square off at 4:30 Thursday at Dale.
