Thunder explode in opener

SHAWNEE, Okla. —

Kevin Durant had 25 points and 11 rebounds, Jeff Green added 24 points and the Oklahoma City Thunder led from start to finish in a 102-89 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night in the season opener for both teams.

AUSTIN, Texas —

Michael Finley made five 3-pointers and scored 20 points in 17 minutes to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 119-102 preseason victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night.
The Spurs (3-2) made 14 of 19 3-pointers with Finley perfect from long range. Matt Bonner was 3 of 3 from beyond the arc, while George Hill was 3 of 6.


Yard Dawgz will have open tryout

The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz and head coach Sparky McEwen will host their third open tryout of the offseason on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at the Indoor Soccer Arena located on 100 N. McCormick. The tryout is being conducted for skill positions only.

Rookie Chase Budinger scored 17 points, Trevor Ariza added 16 and Kyle Lowry had 10 assists in the Houston Rockets’ 105-85 preseason win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night.
Carl Landry scored 15 points and Chuck Hayes had eight points and eight rebounds for the Rockets (4-3).

A handful of Lincoln County drivers, led by Chandler’s Tad Sweitzer, have control of the top-10 points standings of the e-modified division after Saturday’s races at Brill Motor Speedway.

Sweitzer holds 2,387 points after his third-place finish in Heat 1 Saturday, and fellow Chandler residents Steve Robinson and Mark Robinson are second and third in the standings, respectively. Steve Robinson took second in the third heat and holds 2,299 points, and Mark

Carl Crawford’s glove and a dominant bullpen helped save the AL’s streak.
Crawford pulled back a home run with a leaping grab an inning before Curtis Granderson tripled and scored the tiebreaking run in the eighth, giving the American League a 4-3 victory Tuesday night at the new Busch Stadium.

Shawnee resident Kyle Goforth is atop the standings this week at Brill Motor Speedway with 1,255 total points as of July 11 in the modified division.
Goforth finished first in the second heat Saturday, while Chad Miller of Chandler came in fourth. Miller sits at eighth in the points standings with 566.


Banner year for Franklin

With the 2009 All-Star Game approaching, Ryan Franklin is having a banner pitching season for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Franklin, who grew up in Spiro, pitched for Seminole State College and presently makes his home in Shawnee, has been a major player in the Cardinals’ 40-34 record and first-place standing in the National League’s Central Division.
