Sisters at Heart, a ministry for women, will gather for a snack supper and program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 302 E. Independence. The program at 7 p.m. will be presented by Mary Schillings and her daughter, Amy.
Mary has lived in Edmond for nine years and served in numerous capacities in New Covenant United Methodist as well as United Methodist Conference Discipleship Ministry Team. She is also a Court Appointed Special Advocate and volunteers in many areas.
“Living Life in HD (High Definition)” is the title of Mary’s presentation. Supper buffet at 6:30 p.m. is in the fellowship hall on the south side of the church. Introductions and get-acquainted activities precede the beginning of the program. Women from many different areas and churches meet each other at each Sisters at Heart event. Meetings have been monthly between September and April for more than four years.
Leaders of the outreach group are Debbie Chlouber and Donna Tonubbee. They began presenting Christian programs for women in 2004. Their experiences as Sunday school teachers, church leaders and elementary school teachers enabled their creation of this community ministry for women.
“Scripture tells us,” Tonubbee said, “that as Christians, we have a very serious and big responsibility to help others grow in their relationship with God. We have a responsibility to help one another grow in our faith. Women helping other women do that — it’s what ‘Sisters at Heart’ is about. We’re all at different points in our spiritual journeys, and we all can learn from one another where we are.
“Sisters at Heart was born out of a desire to honor God by offering opportunities for women to learn and to grow closer to Him,” Tonubbee added. “We invite women of all ages to be speakers at our programs; women of various backgrounds — mothers, daughters, grandmothers, single and married — and through the life experiences of our speakers, as well as the fellowship that takes place, our hope and our prayer is that once you attend, you’ll come back and be with us again.”
A free nursery is provided and the church welcomes women of all faiths and ages to enjoy the programs.
