Local residents continue to support Angel Food Ministries, which offers a box of food for $30. In response, the Georgia-based food ministry has added items to its monthly menu.
“The uncertainty and unrest in financial markets, the oil industry along with higher food costs has served to increase the benefits of buying Angel Food,” said Trey Davis, Angel Food coordinator at St. John Lutheran Church in Shawnee. “Despite rising costs, a regular box of Angel Food is still just $30 while the value of the food is between $70 to $80. In addition to the regular box, Angel Food now offers a senior box with 10 ‘heat-and-eat’ meals for just $28. An individual can purchase either or both boxes.”
Anyone who purchases a regular box or a senior box also may purchase monthly specials. The October menu offers five specials priced between $18 and $21.
Angel Food orders will be taken from 10 a.m. to noon today at St. John Lutheran Church, 215 W. Wallace. Angel Food also may be ordered from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday and from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., then 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday.
Orders must be placed in person. Angel Food accepts cash or OK Access cards. The October distribution is from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.
