SHAWNEE, Okla. —

Singer-songwriter and author Dennis Jernigan will be in Shawnee today for a 6:30 p.m. praise and worship event presented for the community. The performance is at Wesley United Methodist Church, 302 E. Independence. Admission is free and everyone is invited. A love offering for Jernigan will be taken.
“It’s a good thing God gives us eternity,” Jernigan said. “Maybe that will give me enough time to express my gratitude to him. While I love my old songs, like ‘You Are My All in All,’ ‘We Will Worship the Lamb of Glory’ and ‘Thank You, Lord,’ the new things God is teaching me about leading people out of bondage and into freedom automatically spills out as music with the message of hope God has put in my heart.”
Jernigan calls his newest album, “I Cry Holy,” a “strong declaration of praise and adoration.”
Jernigan and his wife, Melinda, live in Muskogee with their nine children. In addition to his busy writing and travel schedule, he and his family serve Christ through New Community Church.
Joel Deichman, music director at Wesley, said he is extremely pleased that Jernigan accepted his invitation to visit Shawnee at this time. “I knew him in college at OBU,” Deichman said. “His evening will basically be about praise and worship and being intimate with God. This is not a concert but a time to know God’s presence and to be in complete surrender. After Saturday evening, you will know why he is called America’s praise and worship leader.”
Jernigan’s CDs, songbooks and books will be available. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the program begins at 6:30 p.m. A church nursery will be provided.
