People fill the bed of a pickup in Malawi, Africa, in a common mode of transportation in that country. A local family just returned from a mission trip there.

During the 10:45 a.m. Sunday service at New Beginnings Church in Shawnee, the Hamilton family will talk about their recent trip to Malawi, Africa, where they ministered to 300 orphan children.
Jim, Janelle and Ethan Hamilton spent six months in Malawi. Many of the children there have lost at least one parent to AIDS or other diseases. The orphans who live with grandparents or other family members often do not have enough food to eat.
The Hamiltons founded Hope House Orphan Care Foundation and work with Malawian Christ Loves Hope House Orphan Care in the town of Dowa and Kafumphe village, in Malawi. The ministry has two areas that provide one meal a day plus clothing, school uniforms and other needs. Two girls attending the Hope House have started secondary school, and Hope House is helping with fees. Several others are waiting to see if they are eligible to start secondary school. The ministry plans for sponsors to provide school fees for these orphans to continue their education past the eighth grade.
The children come to Hope House after school to eat. They are from a variety of backgrounds: Baptist, Assembly of God, Living Waters, Church of Christ, Catholic, Presbyterian, Anglican, Jehovah Witness and Muslim. They enjoy being taught from the Bible through stories, songs and scripture.
The Hope House has a full-time tailor who teaches sewing, as well as a gardener who teaches about irrigation and when to plant vegetables. The cooks teach how to clean and prepare food, as well as the importance of hygiene.
The Hamiltons will share how living within the community has changed them spiritually and given them new insight. Living in one room, carrying water for their daily needs and undependable electricity has given them more understanding of the hardships the African people face and the things taken for granted in America.
Anyone interested in having the Hamiltons speak at a church or event can contact them at Hope House Orphan Care, P.O. Box 655, Shawnee, OK, 74802. Their phone number is (405) 567-3700 and e-mail is hopehouseorphancare@yahoo.com.
