SHAWNEE, Okla. —

Memorial flag stolen
This is directed to those who live around me. My dad is a proud veteran of World War II, served in North Africa and Europe. He and my mother had a flagpole in their front yard and he raised a flag every day. In his memory, I do the same thing. Twice lately, somebody has stolen the American flag that I raise in my dad’s memory. I leave it up at night because I have a light on it.

Credit still lost?

I’m wondering when Tecumseh is going to clean up the collapsed building downtown because it is very dangerous and unsightly to the town. I’m also wondering when we’re going to receive credit from our bills that were all lost last summer. I haven’t seen mine. I don’t know if anyone else has or not but I haven’t seen mine.

Atta girl, Jamie

Once again Jamie Bergsten did a beautiful job on her guest editorial. I agree with her 100 percent. Keep up the good work, Jamie.

Volunteers thanked

I would like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers who have helped to beautify Shawnee. I frequently drive past the courthouse and the post office, and I enjoy the lovely landscaping they have done. I also think they are doing a wonderful job planting the large pots near the postal drive-by. I frequently have out-of-town company and they never fail to comment on how pretty our town is.

Water animals frequently

Just a reminder to make sure your pets and your livestock are well watered. At this time of year, you need to take particular care of that service for your animals. They ask so little from us. We have to take care of our animals if we expect them to be healthy.

Clean-up needed
Seriously, if you agree with me, the need for cleaning up the red box dumpsites around town, please contact Code Enforcement, the health department or whoever can make this happen.

Report illegal dumping?
I would just like to state that I’ve been on the phone for an hour and 10 minutes trying to call the city of Shawnee to find out where I report illegal dumping. After 15 phone calls, I still do not know where to look.
So, I’m no closer than I was. If anyone has information, would you please print it in the paper?

Thunder Girls cause storm
I noticed the article about the Thunder Girls on Page 2. I think Thunder Girls and all cheerleading, dancing girls are wrong. They are not wearing much and some people are lusting at them. That seems immoral to me. Also, they should be at least 21, but you all know that the younger we are the less intelligent we are. I wonder how many would go to the games without the ticket there to watch them dance.

Cool off postal workers
I would just like to say as great as our country is, they can put a man on the moon, but yet we don’t get to let the post people have air conditioning during summertime. I think it’s wrong. I think that our country’s wrong by not helping them out. If we’ve got all these trillions of dollars to bail everyone else out, why not give a little $100 air conditioner to each mail carrier. These men and women out here are hot and tired and they need some help.

News reporting varies
If you have the luxury of watching the senate hearings on Sonia Sotomayor appointment to the Supreme Court, try going to four different networks — CNN, Fox, MSNBC and CSPAN. What a difference in how to judge what’s going on.

Red boxes mar city’s image
I was from out of town, visiting, and I was kind of curious to know what’s going on with those red donation boxes, just piled and overflowing. I’ve passed by no less than five of them. If this stuff is supposed to be for the needy, why isn’t it getting to them instead of lying out on the street, getting wet and moldy and dug through and what not. Otherwise, I guess it’s a nice town. Thanks for the visit.
