Cotner, Seminole defeat Meeker 

SEMINOLE — Ignited by a 21-point outing by Will Cotner, Seminole upended Meeker 65-49 Tuesday night.

Cotner was true on three field goals from 3-point range. Phalan Wolf and Kason Clark added two treys each as Seminole upped its record to 4-2.

For Meeker (2-7), Drew Ellis and Josh Whitfield recorded 10 points apiece.

“We got off to a slow start, coming off Christmas break, but our defense kicked it up a notch in the second half,” Seminole coach Josh Edenborough said. “I am really pleased because we played very hard.”

Meeker trailed just 46-41 entering the final quarter but Seminole went on a 19-8 scoring spree down the stretch.

Drew Ellis and Josh Whitfield tallied 10 points each for Meeker (2-7).

Seminole will challenge Tecumseh at 3 p.m. Thursday in the first round of the Stroud Tournament.

Meeker will tackle Strother at 3 p.m. Thursday in first-round play of the Konawa Tournament.

Lady Chieftains rally past Meeker

SEMINOLE — Balanced fourth-quarter scoring was vital for Seminole’s girls Tuesday night as they rallied past Meeker 49-43.

Seminole outscored the visitors 19-9 over the final eight minutes. Destre Harrison had five of her seven points in the fourth quarter while teammates Abby Carter, Lindsey Lofton and Taylor White notched four points apiece.

Lofton was Seminole’s leading scorer with 14, followed by Carter with 13 and White with 11.

For Meeker, Torie Jennings was the high scorer with 21. Ashley VanSchuyver and Kennedy Brewster punched in seven apiece.

Brewster and Jennings knocked down two 3-point field goals apiece. Carter posted two treys.

Seminole trailed 22-18 at the intermission.

Seminole (3-3) will engage Luther at 1:40 p.m. Thursday in opening-round action of the Stroud Tournament.
