EARLSBORO – The Earlsboro girls got off to a quick start, but quickly floundered in a 68-31 loss to No. 4 in Class B Varnum Thursday to open the Jim Walling Classic at home.
Trailing 4-2 Katelyn Bohannon drained a 3-pointer to get the Lady Wildcats on the board and Abbey McCarroll hit a bucket to tie at 5. Abby Moery hit a bucket to make it an 8-7 game, but Varnum put up eight unanswered points to lead 16-7 at the end of the first.
Bohannon dropped another trey to lead off the second, but the Lady Wildcats failed to score anymore as they fell behind 39-10 by the break.
They did better after the return, but were outpaced every step of the way for the loss.
McCarroll and Bohannon each had nine points to lead the Lady Wildcats, and each of Bohannon's buckets was a 3-pointer. Casey Clark and Anesah Lindsay each had a trey as well.
The Lady Wildcats will face Maud Friday at 1 in the first round of consolation play.
