Lady Pirates cruise to Kingston final 

KINGSTON – Dale blazed by Tishomingo 52-21 to earn a spot in Monday'sNew Year's Classic final against Kingston. The Lady Pirates got out to a 22-7 start, held the Tishomingo girls under 10 points in each quarter and scoreless in the fourth.

Hannah Ash led the lady Pirates with 12 points, five steals and four boards. Taylor Thompson had three 3-pointers and 11 points and Mikayla Rutland had 11 points, three assists and four rebounds. Claire Chastain had four blocks while putting up seven points and Dani Manning had six points, six assists and four rebounds.

The Lady Pirates will play Kingston at 7 Monday for the championship.

Pirates take down Talihina

KINGSTON – The No. 5 in Class 2A Dale boys got back to work Saturday with a 55-49 win over Talihina as the Kingston New Year's Classic continued play. The win followed an easy win over Silo Thursday before winter weather forced a break in the tournament Friday.

Talihina outscored the Pirates 14-12 in the first, but Dale took a 17-6 run through the second to lead 29-20 at the half. The Pirates were on the receiving end of a 16-11 run after the break, but kept the advantage by outscoring Talehina 15-13 in the fourth.

Brett Cunningham led the Pireates with 17 points, hit three 3-point shots and was 4-for-4 from the courtesy stripe. Cole Seaborn had 15 points and Aaron Hester had 12 while being 9-11 from the line. Drew Reed had six points on two 3-pointers.

The Pirates will play in the championship game of the tournament Monday at 8:30.
