Manning, Ash spearhead Dale
LATTA — Dani Manning tallied 18 points and Hannah Ash added 12 Tuesday night as Dale’s girls whipped Latta 39-30 in a makeup contest.
Dale took charge with a 10-4 third quarter, upping its lead to 27-18.
Manning added 2 steals and 4 rebounds as top-ranked Dale improved to 18-1.
Emma Epperly was high scorer for Latta with 12.
Ash was credited with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
The Lady Pirates were outstanding at the free throw line, hitting 15 of 16. Manning was 8 of 9.
Dale went to 2-0 against Latta on the season.
The Lady Pirates will play Friday at McLoud. It will be the first matchup between the squads this year.
Latta boys edge Dale in overtime
LATTA — With starting guard Cole Seaborn sidelined with a bad ankle and three of his teammates fouled out, Dale fell to Latta 44-42 in overtime Tuesday night.
Dale, ranked third in Class 2A, out-scored fifth-ranked Latta 16-11 in the fourth quarter, including a tying 3-point shot by Gabe Gouge at end of regulation, to send the game into OT tied at 39.
Aaron Hester, Brett Cunningham and Gant Hathcock fouled out for Dale.
Reid Davenport was Dale’s only double-figure scorer with 17.
“I’m proud of the way the boys played, especially in the fourth quarter,” Dale coach Jeff Edmonson said. “We started it down by five and came back to get it tied at the end of regulation.”
Dale defeated Latta 40-31 earlier in the year.
The Pirates will play Friday at McLoud. It’s McLoud’s homecoming.
