Late errors cost Meeker

MEEKER — Five Bulldogs were in double figures Friday night but it still wasn’t quite enough to keep Meeker from dropping an 80-77 decision to Wellston.

Senior Drew Ellis spearheaded Meeker’s scoring with 19, followed by Cale Coleman (13), Josh Whitfield (12), Brett Roach (11) and James Green (10).

Meeker’s last two possessions of the game ended with a turnover and a desperation field goal miss.

Wellston was 22 of 32 from the free throw line while Meeker was 10 of 14.

Roach was Meeker’s top rebounder with 9.

Ellis, Coleman and Green posted one 3-point FG apiece.

Meeker (5-9) will play tonight at Konawa.

Wellston edges Meeker in OT

MEEKER — The Lady Bulldogs of Meeker missed field-goal attempts at the end of regulation and overtime Friday night to fall 47-44 to Wellston.

Regulation concluded with a tie at 37 after Wellston won the fourth quarter 12-8.

Emily Trevino, Ashley VanSchuyer and Torie Jennings poured in 9 points apiece for Meeker (7-11).

Cierra Johnson was Wellston’s top scorer with 17, including three 3-pointers.

Trevino also registered three treys.

Meeker hit 12 of 20 free throws for 60 percent. Wellston was 10 of 14 in the first matchup of the season between the two squads.

Meeker will play tonight at Konawa.
