SHAWNEE- The Cavs started hot on Saturday afternoon, but couldn't hold on to their lead, and lost to Southwestern Christian University (11-11, 3-9 SAC) by a final score of 61-59. St. Gregory's (2-17, 0-12 SAC) started out red hot, and led 20-9 at the end of the first quarter. The Eagles would play a little better in the second quarter, but the Cavs would still take a 28-19 lead into halftime. SGU held SCU to a field goal percentage of just 20.6 percent in the first half. Shanques Garrett (SR/Tulsa, Okla.) had a big first half with 7 points and 11 rebounds.
In the second half, Southwestern Christian closed the gap against the Cavs and they took a 42-41 lead into the fourth quarter. The entire fourth quarter was very close, but the Eagles would outscore the Cavs 19-18 in the final quarter to take home the two point win.
The Eagles shot 62.5 percent as a team in the second half. They were led offensively by Eliora Johnson's 20 points and 12 rebounds, for her seventh double-double of the year. Grace Hadley scored 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Maranda Janz scored 12 points for the Eagles as well.
Shanques Garrett registered her fourth double-double of the season, by finishing with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Kylee Tatum (SR/Bethel, Okla.) and Tralyn Woodard (SO/Fort Worth) each scored 13 points for SGU. 13 points is a career high for Woodard. Lauren Godbold (FR/Arlington, Texas) performed well also, by scoring 12 points.
The Cavaliers will take on Bacone College on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 6 PM in Sumner Field House.
