Lady Pirates bombard Vanoss

VANOSS — Ten Dale girls got in the scoring column as the Class 2A top-ranked Lady Pirates humbled Vanoss 58-6 Tuesday night.

Dale led 15-0 after one quarter and 36-2 at halftime.

Dani Manning spearheaded Dale’s scoring with 14 points. The senior standout added four rebounds, 7 steals and 5 assists as Dale upped its mark to 21-2.

Junior Claire Chastain posted 13 points to go along with 4 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

Sophomore Lacey Savage pulled down 5 rebounds while junior Rylee Thompson recorded 3 steals.

“We have been working a lot on our half-court play, on both offense and defense,” Dale coach Josh Forsythe said.

Four Dale players recorded a trey apiece.

Dale will be home against Wewoka Friday night as part of homecoming activities. Forsythe said the homecoming coronation is slated for 5:45 p.m.

Pirates claim top-10 matchup in OT

VANOSS — In a game befitting a Class 2A top-10 matchup, fourth-ranked Dale outlasted 10th-ranked Vanoss 59-55 Tuesday night.

Regulation play ended in a tie at 44 when Vanoss missed a 2-point field-goal attempt at the buzzer. Aaron Hester of Dale had canned two free throws with 20 seconds left to forge a tie.

Dale captured the overtime session 15-11 as Cole Seaborn posted 7 points. After scoring just 2 points in the opening half on 2 charity tosses, Seaborn finished with 23 points to lead all players. He also had 5 assists.
Brett Cunningham of Dale added 15 points, a team-high 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Entering the night, Cunningham needed 8 points to reach the 1,000-point mark.

Hester totaled 12 points while Gant Hathcock comprised 6 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks.

Trae McGuinness of Vanoss finished with 21 points. Ricky Phillips and Sando Hill added 14 and 12 points respectively. Phillips, McGuinness and Hill recorded 3 treys apiece.

Dale was 12 of 16 from the charity stripe. Vanoss was 3 of 5.

The Pirates improved to 19-4.

“It’s an excellent win when you go on the road against a top-10 team,” Dale coach Jeff Edmonson said. “We found a way to win. I am very proud of them.”

Things don’t get any easier for Dale Friday night as they entertain Class 2A top-ranked Wewoka.
